In his own words...

"This book is a very personal thing for me, because it is the product of a great deal of wrestling. Although it cuts against the grain of the Reformed tradition, I cannot ultimately apologize for that, because I never had an anti-tradition agenda. When I started studying the issue, I can honestly say that I wanted the prevailing tradition to be right. I struggled to make the pieces fit. But in the end, I saw that the biblical integrity involved in the practice of the early Church was in fact superior to our usual way of doing things. I was convinced by the Holy Scriptures, and I pray to God that in the name of the Reformation we do not fall back nonchalantly upon an irreformable tradition."
